RapidIdentity Cloud Release 2025.03.0 - What’s New?
New Features and Notable Enhancements
Single Logout Support for Federated Applications
What is Single Logout?
Each day, you log into your RapidIdentity account to access your main portal. From there, you can access all your other tools and resources (email, HR system, project tools, etc.) without having to log in to each one separately. That’s called Single Sign-On (SSO).
Single Logout (SLO) means that when you log out of that main portal, you're also automatically logged out of all the other connected systems and tools too. With this release, RapidIdentity will be able to support Single Logout for Federated Applications when a session is terminated by an Administrator.
Do all federation partners support Single Logout?
No, not all federation partners are able to support Single Logout. To review which Federation Partners support Single Logout in your tenant, navigate to Configuration → Security → Identity Providers → Federation Partners. With the 2025.03.0 Release, a new column will be added to the Federation Partners list to show if Single Logout is ‘Supported’ or ‘Not Supported’. This column will automatically populate for all existing Federation Partners without any actions from within your tenant.
How is Single Logout invoked?
Tenant Administrators have the ability to manage user sessions when necessary. To view active User Sessions, navigate to Configuration → Security → Session Management. This list will also have a new column with the 2025.03.0 Release to show the number of Federated Sessions for a User. In the example listed below, an Admin can see that a User has two sessions active at the same time. This may be a warning of a bad actor assessing an account without permission. The Admin can choose to terminate the sessions for this User for security purposes.
To terminate the session, the Admin can use the right click menu to view a series of options:
View All Groups: This option produces a list of all of the Groups that a user is a member of in RapidIdentity.
Kill All Sessions for Selected Users: This option will terminate all SLO Supported Federated Sessions, and the RapidIdentity Session for all users selected.
Kill Selected Sessions: This option will terminate the RapidIdentity Session for the user selected, and allow the Admin to choose specific SLO Supported Federated Sessions to terminate.
Once an option is selected, a side menu will pop up with an addition option for the uses whose session is being terminated. If a security issue is suspected, the Admin can use the ‘Disable Account’ option to fully remove access to RI for that account. Click the checkbox next to any accounts to disable before clicking the ‘Yes’ button at the bottom of the menu. Next, a status message for the termination request for the RI Session and any/all Federated Sessions will be displayed.
Once the sidebar menu is closed, Admins can review all Session Termination requests and status through a Community Report. You can easily navigate to the Reports Module using the link at the top of the page:
In the Reports Module, head to the Community Reports to import the Terminated User Federated Sessions in Last 2 Days report.
Once imported, this report can be run to show all all Session Termination requests and status for the past two days. Below is an example of this report:
Studio Access Groups Enhancements
With the 2025.03.0 Release, Studio Administrators will now have additional options and functionality available to them when configuring Access Groups.
Course Selection Enhancements
We’ve added flexibility in searching for Courses, so that you no longer have to know the exact name of the course you are looking to roster. Let’s look at two use cases to highlight the power of the enhancements in place.
The Math Department has requested that all of the Geometry courses are rostered into a new virtual resource. Under Access Groups for the Studio Application, we can create a new Filter based off of Courses.
Without a list of each of the Geometry Courses, this could be a tedious process as previously you could search only by name. Now, the addition of the operator ‘Contains’ give the ability to add a value into the field and then use the pop up module to view the visual list of courses that contain the value.
Adding ‘Geometry’ as the value, as seen below:
Checks the following Courses:
This gives the opportunity to review the selected courses, and make any adjustments as needed. You can also click on the ‘Text’ tab, and view a list of the selected courses. These can be copied and shared with any interested parties.
What if you have a list of Course IDs instead, you ask? No problem!
A Studio Admin has be asked to add two specific Spanish Course Codes to a Studio Application. This time, we will use the operator of ‘is one of’.
When we click in the Value field, we will be able to paste the list of Course IDs into the ‘Text’ tab of the modal.
Now, when we navigate to the ‘Multi-Select’ tab, the corresponding courses will be selected:
Upon review, two of the Spanish courses were selected, but we needed to include additional courses. We can check off the additional options to ensure that all of the required courses are included.
Now that we have all courses selected, we can navigate back to the ‘Text’ tab to view an amended list of course IDs - including the ones we manually selected!
While this example only started with 2 Course IDs, the text field can accepted long strings of comma delimited values easily. And typos happen, so it’s important to note that if a course ID isn’t found in the list, it will not break your Access Group!
