Article summary

Issue Summary:

There is a known issue with Apple-based devices on any browser not immediately loading the camera when scanning for QR code authentication.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Teachers generate QR codes from the Rapid People module, print them, and distribute them to students.

  2. Students open the NCedCloud portal in Safari or any browser on an apple device.

  3. Students receive a prompt to approve camera usage.

Approval prompt: "idp-tst.ncedcloud.org would like to access the camera"
  1. After approving the camera permission, students only see a black screen in the browser. The camera feed only appears after clicking the "flip camera" option a few times.

Suggested Workaround:

  1. Ensure students approve the camera permission prompt.

  2. If the camera feed shows a black screen or no camera, instruct students to click the "flip camera" button until the camera feed appears.

Notes:

  • This issue appears to be isolated to Apple devices using any browser.

  • We are currently investigating the root cause and will provide an update as soon as a permanent solution is identified.
